Junior Audubon Activities — Winter/Spring 2018

Junior Audubon is sponsored by the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society and is offered at no cost to participants.  For more information and updates visit www.lhasct.org or contact Donna Rose Smith at LHASjunior @gmail.com or Phone: 203.706.0474

Children of all ages and their parents have enjoyed Junior Audubon activities, but we keep in mind children in grades 2 through 5 as we plan events.

Kids 7-16 years old are invited to join us for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. This survey is held every year around the world between the second weekend in December and the third weekend in January. This year, we’ll hold a special CBC 4 Kids event at White Memorial Conservation Center. Meet in the A.B. Ceder Room (lower level of the museum). There will be pizza and hot cocoa afterwards. Bring binoculars if you have them; if you don’t, pairs will be provided. Dress for the weather. This event will be run by LHAS Junior Audubon Chair Donna Rose Smith and White Memorial Education Director Carrie Szwed, but more adult mentors are needed to help the teams of young people, so parents, please plan on staying. There is no fee, but donations to White Memorial are welcome to help defray costs.

Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC 4 Kids)

January 13, Saturday, 10 a.m. until Noonish

Eagle Watch, Southbury

February 3, 2018, Saturday, 10-11 a.m.

Last year the eagle viewing was good, and we hope it will be good again this year. There will also be a special Bird of Prey show. Bring your camera. Please dress for cold weather, as the watch site is on a lake and can be colder than other areas of Southbury. There will be an optional stop for brunch at Chip’s Family Restaurant afterwards.

The group size is limited to 15 people, so get your name in to Donna Rose Smith as soon as possible, via email at lhasjunior@gmail.com. Meet at the Shepaug Bald Eagle Observatory in Southbury.

Check our website, www.lhasct.org, for other upcoming Junior Audubon activities.
